Content aware image resizing

the israeli professors ariel shamir and shai avidan developed software to allow images to be shrunk or stretched, vertically and/or horizontally while retaining most of the content.
the method is called seam carving for content-aware image resizing and it figures out which parts of an image are less significant, making it possible to change the aspect ratio of an image without making the content look skewed or stretched.
