the prefecture of fukushima, japan and the total mobility project have announced the creation of a solar powered auto converted from a standard mazda roadster.
the project is an attempt to address the needs of aging and retirement age citizens. the team replaced the engine and gas tank with an electric motor and battery and added seven solar panels across the hood of the car. currently, it is able to run for 30 km at a top speed of 100 km/h.
