DelFly, camera-equipped insect bots

delfly [spin-off technical university delft, the netherlands] is a micro air vehicle [mav] that attempts to somewhat imitate the flight of insects and birds and has video and communication onboard.
the delfly 2 weighs 16 gram, fits in a sphere with a radius of 30 cm and can fly for at least 15 minutes [at a maximum speed of 54 km/h] or hover in one place for 8 minutes.

their next step is delfly micro, that is part of the delfly’s four-year programme in cooperation between asti and tno. the programme, called delfly nano, was started in january 2007. the goal of the nano programme is to build a flying robot with a wingspan of 5 cm, with the objective of carrying a payload onboard. this means that also the development of smaller cameras, actuators, data links etc is necessary.
