TU's spherical ultrasonic motor

tokyo university of agriculture and technology has developed an outer rotor spherical ultrasonic motor featuring unprecedented compactness and rotational freedom. this new spherical ultrasonic motor boasts a spherical diameter of just 20mm.

the new compact motor features a multi-degree of freedom that enables it to rotate around in the direction of x, y, and z-axes. consequently, the motor is capable of free spherical movement. it is possible to mount a camera on top of the motor thereby providing the camera with a multi-degree freedom of movement and can e.g. be used as a robot's eyeball or joint.
